Orlando Sanford International (SFB)

Sanford airport car service, without the long shuttle

Orlando Sanford is a smaller airport about 20 miles north of downtown Orlando, used mostly by Allegiant and seasonal charter flights. It is easy to get through, but it is a long way from the resort area.

Why Sanford needs a little more planning

People choose Sanford for the fare, then discover the drive. From SFB to the theme park resort area southwest of Orlando is roughly 40 to 50 miles, usually on SR 417, a toll road, and about 45 to 60 minutes in normal traffic. That is close to double the trip from Orlando International.

Allegiant is the dominant airline here and keeps a base at the airport, so arrivals tend to bunch around its schedule. When several flights land together, the queue for taxis and app rides across from baggage claim can grow quickly.

A pre-booked car turns that long last leg into one vehicle, one price, with the tolls already counted.

Where SFB passengers usually head

Sanford is the closer airport for the towns north of Orlando, and the farther one for the resort area and the coast.

The resort-area range is a published figure for normal traffic; the others are routing estimates with no traffic.

Good to know before you land at SFB

Cabs, shuttles and app rides load in a marked zone over the road from baggage claim areas 1 to 3; a crosswalk takes you there. A pre-booked driver is a separate arrangement; your booking confirmation is the place to check how your pickup is set up.
