About Cocoa Beach
Squeezed between the ocean and the Banana River, the city follows A1A. The pier opened in 1962, the space center is roughly 15 miles up the coast, and most traffic arrives over the causeway on SR 520.
In 2002 voters capped new buildings at 45 feet, which is why the beachfront feels lower than many Florida resort towns.

Arrival notes for Cocoa Beach
- Below downtown, A1A divides into two one-way roads, north on Atlantic Avenue and south on Orlando Avenue. The hotel name tells the driver which side to come in on.
- Homes on the Banana River side are west of A1A. Include the street, not just the house or hotel name.

How far is Cocoa Beach from Orlando airport?
About 52 miles, roughly 45 to 70 minutes without traffic, mostly on the SR 528 toll road. Tolls are included in the price.
Is Cocoa Beach close to Port Canaveral?
Yes. The cruise terminals are just north of town, which is why many cruisers stay here the night before.
Why is A1A confusing in Cocoa Beach?
Because south of downtown it splits into two one-way roads, Atlantic Avenue northbound and Orlando Avenue southbound.
