## About Windermere

John Dawe, an Englishman, platted it in 1887 and borrowed the name of the Lake District’s largest lake. The whole town is about 1.57 square miles, squeezed between Lake Down and Lake Butler, home to just over 3,000 people in 2020.

Isleworth stayed unincorporated, and Windermere High School is outside the town limits. A “Windermere” mailing address can be well outside the town itself.

## Arrival notes for Windermere

- Many of the old town’s lanes are still sand and dirt. With the complete street address, a driver can find the right house on them.

- The town sits on a key crossing between the lakes, and roundabouts now handle commuter traffic downtown.

- Gated communities around the lakes: have the gate procedure ready before you land.

## Questions travellers ask

### How far is Windermere from Orlando airport?

About 19 miles, roughly 25 to 40 minutes without traffic.

### Is Isleworth in Windermere?

No. Isleworth remained unincorporated when the town tried to annex it. Give the community name with the address.

### Why does the driver need the full address?

Because much of the town’s grid is unpaved lanes, and many homes with a Windermere address are actually in the county around it.
