Families and young children

Lugging car seats through two airports is the part of a family trip nobody enjoys. Give us the children’s ages and the seat each one rides in, and those seats come with the vehicle at no added cost.

- Minivans with sliding doors for easy loading

- One private vehicle, no shared stops

- Child seats, meet and greet, tolls and airport fees are in the price

## What we need to know when you book

### How many children, and how old

Ages tell us a lot, but give us weight and height too if your child is near the limit of a seat type.

### Which seat each child uses

Rear-facing infant seat, forward-facing seat with a harness, or a booster. If you are not sure, tell us what your child uses at home.

### Strollers and extra gear

A folded stroller, a travel crib or a cooler all take luggage space, and we size the vehicle around them.

### Your own seat, if you prefer it

Some parents want the seat their child already knows. Say so in the booking and we plan the space for it.

## What Florida law says about car seats in a hired car

Florida law requires a crash-tested child restraint for children five and under: a car seat through age three, and a car seat or booster at four and five.

Hired, chauffeur-driven vehicles are exempt, and the law puts the responsibility on the parent rather than the driver ([Florida Statutes 316.613](https://www.flsenate.gov/Laws/Statutes/2026/316.613); our [plain-English guide](https://floridatransportationservices.com/guides/florida-car-seat-law-hired-cars/) has the detail). So we bring the seats, and you meet the law without carrying them. This is a summary, not legal advice.

Seat stages at a glance

- Up to age 3 A carrier or a built-in child seat Florida law

- Ages 4 and 5 Carrier, built-in seat or booster Florida law

- Until the belt fits Booster, often to 4 ft 9 in, ages 8–12 Advice

- Under 13 Ride in the back seat Advice

Law: Florida Statutes 316.613. Advice: NHTSA and the American Academy of Pediatrics. Not legal advice.

## Choosing the vehicle for a family

For most families of up to six, the choice is between a minivan and an SUV. The minivan’s sliding doors and lower step make it easier to buckle children in at a busy curb, and easier for grandparents to climb in. An SUV typically carries a little more luggage. Two families travelling together, or a large family with lots of gear, usually fit better in a [passenger van](https://floridatransportationservices.com/group-transportation/).

Every vehicle class has a typical number of child seats it can take, listed on the [fleet page](https://floridatransportationservices.com/fleet/). If your party needs more seats than that, ask: it is a question of fitting them safely, and we confirm it before you travel.

## Questions travellers ask

### Do child seats cost extra?

No. They are part of the fare. When you book, give the number of seats, the children’s ages and which kind each needs.

### Does Florida require car seats in a hired car?

Subsection (6) of statute 316.613 exempts a chauffeur-driven vehicle hired for pay, and in the same breath makes compliance the parent’s or guardian’s responsibility. We supply seats so your child can ride in one anyway. This is not legal advice.

### What age needs which seat?

Under Florida law, children up to and including age three need a carrier or a built-in seat, and four- and five-year-olds may use a booster. Safety guidance from NHTSA and the AAP goes further, recommending a booster until the adult belt fits, often between ages 8 and 12.

### Can we bring our own car seat?

Yes. Tell us in the booking so the vehicle has space for it, and for any seats we are providing as well.

### Which vehicle is easiest with small children?

Usually the minivan, because the sliding doors and low step make it simpler to load children and strollers at a crowded curb.
